The Atelier Bebrél project was born from the synergy of two shelters for women victims of violence, Casa Delbrêl (Punto Missione Onlus) and Comunità di Vita (Casa Betel 2000), located in Brescia and Rodengo Saiano (BS). Fondazione Marcegaglia has been supporting this new project since 2020, which focuses on training and entrepreneurship to offer an opportunity for redemption to women victims of trafficking, violence or marked by severe social hardship.
In the social rehabilitation process of these women, one of the main objectives is precisely to provide training and work so that they can re-enter the social and working world by acquiring their own autonomy. Thanks to Atelier Bebrél they can put themselves to the test in a real tailoring workshop for cutting and sewing.
The Atelier is divided into two laboratories: one used for actual production and open to the public, which carries out tailoring work and tailor-made repairs as well as tailor-made tailoring, and a laboratory used for training. The two laboratories communicate and collaborate, both for the transfer of skills and work. The apprentices are placed in training courses through internships or work grants and usually have previous knowledge in tailoring as well as a strong motivation, this makes their insertion easier and the training path more effective. Based on the level achieved and the skills acquired, they have the opportunity to grow professionally by moving from one laboratory to another. From the beginning we tried to give a highly qualitative cut to tailoring production so that in the Atelier you learn how to sew by hand and machine, but also to make high quality garments starting from the design of models and prototypes.
With the contribution of the Artistic Director of the project, Prof. Dario Polatti, former professor at the Santa Giulia Academy in Brescia and consultant for fashion events, the Bebrél Line was born, consisting of garments entirely made in the Atelier.
In 2021, the support of the Marcegaglia Foundation is focused on expanding the spaces of the Atelier with a room and machinery used solely for training to allow production and training activities to proceed simultaneously and create greater collaboration between workers and apprentices.
The main goal for the near future is to make the Atelier economically sustainable by guaranteeing the activity of the two laboratories and satisfying the market demand through the proposal of ethical and high quality tailoring products.
